Tal-Petut is arguably one of the best restaurants in Malta. This family-owned restaurant has been serving traditional Maltese cuisine for years and is located in a stunning sandstone building in Birgu, an area known for its historical significance. It's incredibly well priced for the experience. For around 35 euros, you can indulge in a delicious three-course meal, each dish made from fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. The food is a blend of African, Middle Eastern, and Italian peasant cuisine, reflecting the island's rich cultural heritage. What sets Tal Petut apart from other restaurants is the passion and dedication of the family running it. They have kept the business within the family for generations and have worked hard to preserve the traditional Maltese cuisine, which they say is often forgotten and at risk of being diluted by Western influence. The restaurant is housed in a historic building that has played a significant role in Malta's past. During World War II, the building served as a shelter, and you can still see the war bunkers below the restaurant today. The hosts provide excellent service, making you feel like a guest in their home. Overall, Tal-Petut is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience authentic Maltese cuisine in an authentic setting. Note - You usually need to book in advance for this one.
